I came across this in my documents when I was in the process of switching computers (I got a new Mac!). Thought I’d share since I haven’t yet posted any of my poetry.
Runaway Heart – Ashley Bowman, 09/10/07
My runaway heart,
where did you go?
Chasing after a love
that was plated with gold.
Like sinking through quicksand
or trying to fly,
Captivated, I lost you
in another’s eyes.
Heart, where have you gone?
I can’t feel you beating.
And your whisper’s grown faint.
You must be bleeding
at the hands of another
who stole you away
with promises of tomorrow
and dreams of yesterday.
Now run away, my heart,
for he has set you free.
You must find a way
to come back to me.
Though you’re broken and lost,
though you’re tattered and scarred,
you mustn’t lose faith
and you mustn’t grow hard.
Oh, my runaway heart,
love has left you behind,
but just for a season;
hope is still thine.
Alone you must wander
‘til the wounds are well,
but love again will find you;
You will be made whole.
Listen to me, my heart.
Hold tight to my voice.
You must linger no longer;
you’ve only one choice.
Run away, my heart,
for now that you’re free
you must find your way
back home to me.

Okay so this is AMAZING! You should really consider getting it published. What a talent you have!
